ASTERIA New Tab replaces the browser’s new tab page with a customizable personal start page containing a clock, optional weather, search, links, folders, link groups, themes, and layout settings.
ASTERIA is designed as a local-first extension. It does not sell personal information, display behavioral advertising, track browsing activity, or transmit saved links, bookmarks, folders, themes, layouts, or backup files to the developer. The only data that can reach the developer is the optional, off-by-default usage statistic described in Section 6, and only after the user turns it on.
The following information may be created or processed locally and remains in the user’s browser storage:
This locally stored information is not transmitted to the developer.
ASTERIA uses the bookmarks permission only when the user chooses “Import browser bookmarks.”
The permission allows ASTERIA to read the browser’s bookmark tree and create corresponding links and folders on the start page.
ASTERIA does not modify or delete the browser’s original bookmarks. Bookmark data is processed and stored locally and is not transmitted to the developer or any third party.
The weather feature is optional.
When the user searches for a city or district or displays weather for a selected location, ASTERIA may send the entered place name or selected location coordinates to the following services:
This information is used only to find the requested location and provide weather information.
ASTERIA does not request precise GPS location and does not associate weather locations with the user’s name, email address, account, or advertising identifier.
Requests made to these services may be subject to their respective privacy policies and normal server logging practices.
ASTERIA may retrieve externally hosted images when the user selects a remote wallpaper, enters an image URL, or displays a website favicon.
These requests are used only to display the requested image or website icon. ASTERIA does not use these requests to track the user’s browsing activity.
Usage statistics are off by default. In the Usage statistics setting inside ASTERIA, the user can explicitly turn them on, and can stop them and request deletion at any time.
When turned on, ASTERIA sends the following to SELECTLAB (mnfrm.kr) at most once per day, and only on a day the ASTERIA new tab page was actually shown:
The server derives the usage date from its own clock (Asia/Seoul). No browsing URLs, searches, saved links, bookmarks, folders, layouts, images, backup files, account data, cookies, or credentials are included. A network connection necessarily exposes the source IP address in transit; the collector does not store it, and its request log for this endpoint is disabled.
Daily pseudonymous records are kept for at most 90 days and are viewed by the developer only as aggregate counts of active browser profiles. This data is not sold, not used for advertising, and not sent to any third-party analytics provider.
Choosing “Stop and delete” turns statistics off and asks the server to delete this profile’s records. If the browser is offline, the deletion request is retried on a later connection, or the records expire after the retention period. Uninstalling the extension alone does not send a deletion request.
The optional host permission for mnfrm.kr is requested only after the user turns usage statistics on. Declining it has no effect on any other ASTERIA feature. Browser profiles, reinstalls, and devices are counted separately and are not verified people.
ASTERIA does not download or execute remotely hosted JavaScript or WebAssembly.
All executable code is included in the extension package reviewed by the Chrome Web Store. Remote responses are used only as weather data, location search results, images, or website icons.
ASTERIA does not sell user data.
ASTERIA does not use or share user data for:
Limited location-query data is sent only to the weather and geocoding providers described above when the user uses the optional weather feature. Optional usage statistics, when turned on by the user, are described in Section 6.
Locally stored information remains on the user’s device until the user:
ASTERIA does not maintain a separate developer-operated database containing the user’s saved links, bookmarks, folders, layouts, or settings. The only developer-side records are the optional usage statistics in Section 6, kept for at most 90 days and deletable on request from within the extension.
ASTERIA requests only the permissions required for its features.
ASTERIA uses a Manifest V3 Content Security Policy that allows executable scripts only from the extension package. Although no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure, ASTERIA is designed to minimize data collection and external transmission.
ASTERIA is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed toward children. ASTERIA does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
This Privacy Policy may be updated when ASTERIA’s features, third-party services, or legal obligations change.
When material changes are made, the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy will be updated.
